"Exceptional midwifery group care"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was extremely happy with the care I received from my midwifery group at KEMH for both my births.

Having a known midwife and team made my pregnancy and delivery as low stress as possible as I felt listened to by someone who got to know me and my body. Having someone I could text and access directly was so reassuring and there was also plenty of time allocated to appointments for me to ask any questions.

During my first pregnancy I felt the support I had from the midwifery team made pregnancy and birth very relaxed, they instilled me with confidence about having a unmedicated vaginal birth, which is what I ended up with.

For my 2nd bub I was diagnosed with GD however Paula made sure I had as much autonomy with my preference for a natural birth, whilst still keeping me informed of all the options including interventions. At no time did I feel pressured into choosing one option over the other, which really kept me satisfied for how both births went. I felt that because I was lucky enough to have a midwife that delivered my first baby, she was able to gently guide me when she knew I was hesitant about a c section or induction. I felt supported the whole pregnancy and did go into spontaneous labour, again unmedicated vaginal birth.

I wholeheartedly believe that having a midwifery group providing continuity of antenatal care resulted in the best outcome for me and my babies. It reduced the anxiety I felt in my 2nd pregnancy.

Based on my birth experiences, I highly recommend a midwife group model to all my friends.
