We decided to have our third baby in our home town of Margaret River instead of in a private Perth hospital with an obstetrician. We didn’t regret the decision for a second. The care I received from my GP the whole way through and the team of midwives towards the end of the pregnancy was second to none. I always felt that my thoughts and concerns were taken seriously and I was never pushed into anything I didn’t want to do when there was no medical reason.
My care through the labour itself was also beyond expectations. My medical team of two midwives and my doctor had my well-being and ambitions at the forefront of their care and I am so appreciative to have achieved my goal of as natural labour as was safe for myself and my child. I feel so accomplished for having achieved this goal and it wouldn’t have been possible without the compassion and understanding of my caregivers.
Post birth I can’t fault the midwives who cared for myself and my child and continue to offer assistance, though I’m happy to say we are all doing really well.
Even though I ended up seeing and or talking to all the Margaret River midwives towards the end of my pregnancy (and they were all lovely and very caring) due to leave requirements, I found the MGP program to be very useful. It was wonderful having consistency with my care and knowing who to call when I had concerns. It was also great having my own midwife who knew my story and my ambitions and did their best to accommodate my wishes and concerns.
Hats off to the Margaret River Maternity team! Truly blown away by my experience.
