"Poor behavioural treatment"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a relative),

Waiting to see a family friend and it seemed only 2 ppl allowed, that’s okay in these times. I couldn’t go because someone else was there so my parent went up. I waited downstairs in the main entrance and I asked the person who checked my parent in. One of your staff members asked me to wait outside where it was raining. I chose to walk outside. Let’s be honest, it seems to me that outside your main entrance there’s not a lot of shelter. I also don’t appreciate being called sir/mam nor did my parent getting called sir/mam. Who in this day and age calls people that?

We don’t have to wear masks in public except on public transport and in hospitals. I think this is becoming too much.

Dear beidjd55

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH). The restrictions associated with COVID have caused a few challenges for us and it has been difficult to find the right balance that ensures that visitors and patients are able to safely access our services as well as providing screening from the sun and shelter from the rain.

Since the restrictions began, we have installed multiple tents around the SCGH site. Back then we were experiencing a very hot summer and the priority was to provide screening from the sun. Since then, the weather has changed, and we have replaced the original tents with ones that are better able to protect against the rain and won’t get blown away with the wind. We are looking forward to the restrictions easing so that it becomes easier for visitors to spend time with their loved ones while they are under our care.

I’m sorry your parent was offended at being called Sir/Mam. I agree, this is quite an old fashioned term these days and it is a good reminder that we should always ask how someone prefers to be addressed. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with staff.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback with us.

Kind Regards

Jodi Graham
