"Our Baby who was born with Gastroschisis"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Community Midwifery Program Perth Children's Hospital / Ward 3B - NICU

(as a parent/guardian),

We found out at 12 weeks that our baby had Gastroschisis and her intestines were growing outside of her body. The specialists at KEMH were incredible and the Gold Team midwives carried me through to labour supporting me emotionally and physically along the way where my husband could not attend appointments due to COVID restrictions.

Once I went into labour a week early I had an amazing birth experience even though I had to have an emergency C section. We felt so supported and held through the process by the team at King Eddies. I had to stay in hospital for 2 days while my baby was taken to PCH to be cared for. They were amazing and really nursed me to be strong enough to go and eventually be with her.

PCH was a rollercoaster of emotions as our bub had to stay in ICU for a few weeks. Where to start... I found the people who work in Ward 3B are of a very special sort. The love, care and attention to detail they give both to the babies and support for the parents through the process is second to none. We have never experienced care like it, I felt these people really love what they do and are so gifted at it. My husband and I would like to just say from the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who was a part of our journey and nursing our very special little girl back to health. She would not be here in our arms today without them and we are forever grateful... words don't even come close to the gift you have given us.

At the time of writing this, we are on our way home, our very precious little family, stronger for what we went through over the last many months.

The NICU journey is not an easy one and one I would not wish upon my worst enemy, thank goodness for the incredible people and the solid system in place that carried us through to leave with big smiles on our faces.

We have so much love for you all, thank you for showing up and being heroes every single day.

With love, julyse84 & family xxx
