"Covid Birth"

About: Albany Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as a service user),

I am preparing for birth at the end of the year. I have already been told that if my baby's Dad has Covid, he will not be able to attend his baby’s birth.

This is a monumental moment of our child’s life and as I understand it, we have safe PPE equipment in Australia that he could use if needed.

I am so dismayed that this process is still in place - the hospital has downgraded to code blue with Covid - and restrictions are being relaxed left right and centre. In the community Covid is treated like a cold! I think WACHS needs to update this policy.

Dear Anonymous111

Thank you for reaching out to us via Care Opinion to share your sadness and distress regarding the impact that the state wide COVID-19 Visitor Guidelines may have on your baby’s birth at the end of the year. I am very sorry that these guidelines are causing such concern and distress for you and your family when all you should be thinking about is the excitement of meeting your new family member.

Currently, Covid-19 positive visitors are only allowed to enter the State’s health care with discretion from an approved authority. The primary purpose of this guideline is to protect you, your baby, other vulnerable patients and the healthcare workforce from Covid-19. We in the health system have the patients and loved ones best interest at heart and we truly believe we have a responsibility to keep you safe.

With Covid-19 infection rates declining in WA and with the state beginning to transition out of related restrictions we are very hopeful that your partner will be able to attend this special moment with you.

The maternity staff at the Albany Health Campus will keep you updated with the latest information regarding these regulations and how they apply to you and your family.

With best wishes.
