"Penile cancer"

About: Albany Health Campus / Cancer Services Royal Perth Hospital / Renal (Nephrology) & Urology & Endocrine Medicine & Ward 6A/6B/6C

(as the patient),

Almost 2 years ago I went to my doctor with an issue. They sent me to a urologist specialist and when I went back to my doctor's clinic the staff told me they were up in Perth for some training. I gathered they'd be back in a few weeks but they never returned. The specialist organised biopsies here in Albany then I was rushed to Perth Royal for a partial penectomy. They attempted a split skin graft which failed. Nothing works the way it should.

Everyday consists of nightmares, panic attacks, bleeding and the occasional wet pants.

I don't know what's next.

Dear Bloke.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I was very sorry to learn of your ongoing health concerns and the uncertainty surrounding the care you need.

As you have explained, your symptoms are affecting your quality of life and I acknowledge that this must be a very worrying time for you. I recommend you see your GP or Cancer Services team in Albany again to discuss your concerns and deteriorating health. If your GP or the Cancer Services team feels there is a need for more urgent assessment then we would welcome them to contact our Urology department directly to provide any additional information that will help prioritise your case.

Regrettably, without knowing your particular details it is hard to comment on the care you have been provided or what other treatment or investigations are required. I would like to invite you to contact the Consumer Engagement Unit on (08) 9224 1637, 8am to 4pm or email RPBG.feedback@health.wa.gov.au, so they may liaise with the medical teams involved in your care.

Thank you for letting us know of your experience so that we can learn and improve the care we deliver to our patients and the community.

I wish you all the best in your healthcare journey.

Kind regards,

Dr Lesley Bennett
