"Two outstanding nurses from Geraldton Hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I want to acknowledge 2 amazing Nurses from Geraldton Hospital.  The two Nurses names are Michelle an ED Nurse and Henry a ward Nurse. These two stunning and amazing Nurses need to be acknowledged for the wonderful work they do and I was lucky enough to have them attend to me.

Recently, while on holiday in Kalbarri I needed to go to Geraldton hospital because of a perforated bowel. The following day, I was rushed into an emergency operation which consisted of the removal of part of my bowel and being left with a Stoma bag.

I was alone in the hospital having sent my family back home to Perth.  As you can imagine I was very anxious after being told I needed to go into surgery right up until I was met by Michelle who was brought in from ED.

Michelle greeted me and immediately took charge making sure the Anaesthetist had a good vein, the Surgeon was corrected with the right procedure and had complete control of the operating theatre.  I was immediately put at ease with Michelle being in charge and was able to be operated on knowing I was in excellent hands.

Michelle was the first person I woke up to and she immediately reassured me that I was ok and she was there for me.  In fact Michelle made sure she checked up on me again when she finished her shift the next morning just as she said she would.  Michelle again visited me the next day on her shift and a third time on her day off as she happened to be at the hospital for her husbands appointment.  Being alone in a strange place was challenging but it was made so much easier by the actions of a most empathetic and friendly lovely Nurse whom I found out later has worked at Geraldton Hospital for 30 years.

I have yet to find exactly how I am going to thank her for helping me through one of the worst operations I have ever had and I’ve had a few.  I will always be extremely thankful that someone was watching over me and sent me this Earth bound Angel.  If any of the ED nurses and theatre Nurses needed a trainer I most definitely would recommend Michelle as she was the epitome of an excellent Nurse who’s experience in her profession is outstanding.

I stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks and was lucky enough to have Henry, a Ward nurse, look after me in the days leading up to me being discharged.

Henry on first impressions was a confident, organised breath of fresh air who instantly brought a smile to my face.  He literally swans in with a warm friendly smile and instantly organises the room to his very high standard.  His knowledge base and ability is evident when you first meet him and you just know you’re in the very best Nursing hands that is available.

Nothing was ever a problem!  He always delivered what was asked and then some.  I was very anxious about my Stoma bag as the Stoma Nurse was away in holiday.  It was Henry who helped and directed me in regard to dealing with changing and managing my bag of which I was most grateful.  If ever there was a Nurse who should be training new Nurses on the Ward, in my opinion it is Henry as I believe of all the Nurses who attended to me, he was the one whom I could ask anything of.  He was never rushed and I loved how he would straighten up everyone of his patients beds just so we were orderly and felt pampered.

The most important thing I would like to say about Henry is his most efficient and professional yet empathetic and beautiful demeanour.

I commend both Michelle and Henry for their amazing abilities and fabulous bedside manner.  I cannot thank them both enough for all that they both did for me while in Geraldton Hospital.  May you both continue the amazing work that you do.  I feel Geraldton Hospital is so lucky to have such amazing staff!  Thank you both for your care and support

Kind regards and eternal gratitude from both myself and my family!❤️❤️❤️
