"The midwife I had when I birthed my son"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I went into labour recently mid-week. I had my son on the following day just past midnight.

I was in a lot of discomfort having intense contractions very close together.

I’m not sure what time it was when Tatiana came and introduced herself, but she had a very calming affect and was extremely caring and reassuring. I found when other midwives would come in, I would be looking for her. The whole care I experienced in the maternity section of Bunbury Regional Hospital was incredible, and I cannot fault it. All the midwives and doctors I encountered were amazing, and the level of care was better than I’ve ever received. Although for me, Tatiana was just next level with her care.

I ended up having to go for a C section under general anaesthetic, and Tatiana was my baby’s midwife and took him when he was born. My whole experience in the hospital was incredible and a lot of that was to do with Tatiana and the way she made an effort to go above and beyond. When she came back on night shift the next night she came to see me and make sure I was doing ok. And also checked on my husband. The last night I was in hospital, she took my baby for a few hours so I could have some rest, and when she brought him back in the early morning she asked if I wanted a hot drink, so she went and got me a milo and a muffin, because she knew breakfast was still a while away. She didn’t have to do this, but she just went above and beyond.

The way she treated me and my husband and our baby, made us both exclaim how incredible this woman is, and in my opinion an asset to the hospital. She was always respectful and caring, and also helped me have a voice. She made me feel reassured when I was a little scared, and comfortable when things were a bit stressful. We will never forget our experience and never forget how amazing this midwife is. I hope all the staff in the maternity ward are recognised for how amazing they are. But I especially hope Tatiana is recognised for her level of care. Based on my experience, she deserves an award.

Dear capellakk48,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback via Care Opinion. It sounds as if you had a long birth journey, which perhaps didn't quite go to plan (given you had an emergency caesarean under general anaesthetic at the end). I am so pleased that we were able to support you during your labour and birth, and that Tatiana especially, provided you and your family with the care and support that you needed throughout your stay with us.

I have passed on your beautiful words to the team, I know that they will be grateful and humbled by your kind feedback. Tatiana is such a beautiful soul, and as you say, a wonderful asset to the team. I am fortunate to have such a professional and compassionate Medical, Midwifery and support staff team working within the department, and I am very proud of them all

I hope you and your family are settling into the home environment, and I wish you well with your parenting journey ahead. Thank you again and take care.

Katrina Jones

Clinical Midwifery Manager.
