Late one night, I had some food and liquid explode in my face (after heating in a microwave). I immediately washed my face with a lot of cold water and put on gel burn pads but I knew I needed help as I couldnt open one of my eyes and could barely see with the other one. I managed to call an ambulance, make my way out of my complex and meet them.
The Ambos were great and we had a laugh about how it happened (exploding potatoes).
St Vincent’s ED were also fabulous and my examining Doctor was very thorough, kind and caring. I had to stay the rest of the night and he came back several times after scouring the place for ointment and moisturiser for my burns. He was still on shift the next morning, to discuss my going to the Syd Eye Hospital for further examination. A very long work period for him and I highly commend his care of me.
At the Eye Hospital, when I got into the treatment area ( it being a very busy day), the staff were also fantastic. Kind, caring and professional. I highly commend them also. In fact, one ends up in Emergency under stressful circumstances and most people only experience this infrequently. Our amazing medical professionals deal with people in pain every day and help save them. I feel we need to value and cherish our Nurses, Doctors and Support Staff.
