"Misdiagnosed appendicitis"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I went into the ED recently and after waiting 6 hours and given heavy opioids I was sent home. I then went to another hospital and had an emergency appendectomy.

Dear Sorepatient1

My name is Dr Nadarajah Ramesh and I am the Interim Director Medical Services at Central Gippsland Health.

Thank you for telling us about your experience in our Emergency Department - it is very concerning and we assure you that we do not take your feedback lightly.

Whilst we will endeavour to review the issue you have raised at a general level in terms of our systems and processes for the diagnosis of appendicitis, it would be highly beneficial for our staff to review your case in detail and identify areas where we can learn from your experience and improve our care and service to the community.

There may also be supports that we can provide you to aid in your recovery, which I would be happy to discuss with you. If you felt able to assist us in this regard, I would welcome you to contact me at Nadarajah.ramesh@cghs.com.au or on (03) 5143 8700.

Kind Regards

Dr Ramesh
