"My grandparent's care"

About: Albany Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as a relative),

My grandparent has a shared bathroom and when the door is opened for their needed assistance, their privacy is taken away by being in direct sight of the other patient in the room, also while leaving the room I heard two nurses making what I felt were rude remarks about my grandparent and family who were visiting. This occurred recently.

Dear nitratemt87,

I am truly sorry that your grandparent has experienced this loss of privacy and dignity and that nurses were heard to make inappropriate remarks.

We pride ourselves on providing excellent quality care for all our patients and on this occasion we have let both your grandparent and your family down.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I have asked all of our Nurse Managers to remind our staff about maintaining our patients’ dignity and privacy. We are also reviewing the physical environment to determine if we can improve privacy in shared bathrooms.

I really appreciate you giving us the opportunity to address this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me on 0428 758 213 if you have any other concerns you would like to discuss.

Yours sincerely

Jenny Thompson
