"Communication of results"

About: Karratha Health Campus

(as the patient),

Earlier this year, I went and saw a gynaecologist at Karratha Health Campus after an incident for a check up and Pap smear. I’m now in my second trimester. Recently I got a phone call from the hospital saying that they had booked me in for another gynaecologist appointment, I called my midwife to see if they requested it. They did not but they looked into it for me, it turned out that in my Pap smear over 6 months ago my results came back abnormal and they only just got in contact with me regarding this, which I feel could have an effect on my life and possibly my unborn child.

Dear foxtrotrw97,

Thank you for taking the time providing your feedback regarding your experience at the Karratha Health Campus Outpatient Department.

I’m very concerned to read that your Pap smear results were not communicated to you soon after your examination. It must be very upsetting to receive a phone call from the health service advising that another Gynaecologist appointment was scheduled for you, and then to hear from your midwife that the results from your examination six months ago had returned abnormal. I am also very sorry to read that all this has happened while you are in the second trimester of your pregnancy.

We would like to conduct a thorough clinical review into your patient journey and understand how this happened, We would greatly appreciate your involvement in this process and hope that you are happy to reach out to us so that we can arrange this.

My name is Liam Avery and I am the Operations Manager for the West Pilbara. Please feel free to contact me on 08 9144 7639 or via email on Liam.Avery@health.wa.gov.au

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards

Liam Avery
