Early this week our family was instructed by Siler Chain nursing care to call for an ambulance for our Mother. The ambulance went to Joondalup Health Campus. It seemed the waiting times upon our arrival were very lengthy. As my Mother is very elderly we were worried as I recall the corridors behind the emergency dept were already full with people being triaged. We had only been there a matter of minutes when we were approached by a member of the RACE team, a (I believe) new service that was formed to keep people over the age of 65 out of the ER waiting rooms, rapid assessment, with the hope of treatment and care plan and hopefully being able to return them home with supports in place. I would like to congratulate Joondalup Health Campus for putting together a service for our vulnerable elderly that I feel is staffed by such caring, professional and compassionate staff. My mother was taken for a CT scan quickly, assessed and cared for very thoroughly, we could not have asked for more. I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the whole RACE team and hope that the service is extended in the future.
