"Wait times"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Emergency Department 8 Hour wait. We were also told by nurses they were well understaffed and the doctor was being shared between several floors. The ED didn't even seem busy, I believe they only had about 7 patients in a 10 hour period. And several of them walked out untreated!

In my opinion, emergency at King Edward Hospital is pathetic!

Dear Longwait,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) Emergency Department (ED). At KEMH, we endeavour to provide our patients with a positive experience, and I am extremely sorry that this was not the experience you received.

I am sorry to hear you were waiting for eight hours to be assessed by the doctor in the ED. Staff availability has impacted on our services and we have been unable to respond as quickly as we would wish to. I am deeply sorry for the disappointment this has caused.

I encourage you to reach out to our Consumer Liaison Service on (08) 6458 1444 or via email WNHSCLS@health.wa.gov.au so that a member of our clinical team can review the reason why you experienced an eight hour wait time in the ED.

We appreciate your feedback and will ensure this is provided to our ED staff and your experience is used as an opportunity to reflect on the service we provide.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Skinner
