"Child Health Nurse visit"

About: Child and Parent Centre - Rangeway

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended a child health nurse visit with my 4mth old. I was happy to have my appointment pushed back by half an hr at the nurses request to fit someone else in, however I then felt they rushed thru my appointment slot. I recall the nurse did not ask how my baby was feeding or sleeping during the night, no discussion about starting solids, or what to expect in the next 8 months. I was given 2 questionnaires to complete whilst breastfeeding and the depression scale. Even though I had no concerns with my baby's development, I walked out of the appointment feeling like "why did I attend this appointment", I feel I got nothing out of it except my baby weight, height and head circumference.

Dear scoreboardwd75

Thank you for reaching out to us on Care Opinion.

I was sorry to read that you felt rushed through the appointment, that is certainly not what we would have hoped for. We would like new parents to feel these appointments give essential support and advice during the early part of your parenting journey. I will have your feedback discussed at our next team meeting, so we can review as a group how to ensure that both child and parent are receiving the maximum benefit from their appointments.

To assist us with this I would like to speak with you to discuss your concerns in more detail and get your input into how we can make the appointments successful for everyone. I would also like to offer an additional appointment for you so we can ensure we have fully supported yourself and your child. We also have some upcoming group opportunities which may benefit you and your baby including a Solid Start workshop run by our Child Health Nurses and Dietitians. My name is Karen Street, I am the Director Population Health and can be contacted on 08 9956 1962.

Regards

Karen Street
