"Volunteers at Fiona Stanley Hospital"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital

(as the patient),

In my experience, hospitals, such as Fiona Stanley Hospital, are large establishments and really do prove to problematic in regard to navigating around from Car Parks to Outpatient Clinics. The distances to be coverred are not small, especially if one is ill or experiencing mobility issues.

Usually, if at all possible, I use Telehealth services to good effect, however, there are occassions when I need to be prodded and probed, more like scans and imaging.

Recently I needed to attend at the Hospital to attend mulitple appointments, a thanks you here to the clinicians for organising the visit to reduce the number of visits required. It was with some trepidation that I set off to the hospital concerned how I was going to navigate the hospital, I needed a wheelchair to move from the car park to the clinic; clinic to the cafes ( I was there all day) and then a return to the car park.

I need not have worried, after making a contact with a staff member with a telephone in front of them, A call went out to the Volunteers at the hospital who would would quickly 'appear' to take me where I needed to go. My day was 'made easy'.

A big thank you for the Volunteers who helped me. I feel this is an example of the importance of the work the Volunteers undertake. I believe they should be seen as the 'lubricant' of the hospital, helping keeping the hospital running.

Dear Obeah,

Thank you for providing your feedback to us via Care Opinion – your detail provided a fantastic picture of your current needs in relation to navigating the health system and our hospital (which I agree can be tricky).

I appreciate your gratitude to the multiple appointments booked for you in the one day that is certainly something we aim to do when possible. And of course – thank you for your kind (and accurate) gratitude towards our volunteers. We have around 600 volunteers across our Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals Group and I agree with you – we would not be able to run, the way we do, without them! I also appreciate the team as much as you, and I am delighted they were able to ensure your long day of appointments was made easier and bearable.

I have asked that our Volunteer Manager passes on your gratitude to our volunteers, with my added personal thanks.

Warm regards,

Neil Doverty

Group Executive Director

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.
