I was attending another hospital for all previous appointments in the hope to have a water birth. I was 1 day over my due date and my waters began to leak so I was transferred to St John of God in Midland WA to be induced as the other hospital do not do this.
When we arrived to the hospital at the birthing suite, neither my partner or I were asked if we were vaccinated against covid. We both sat in delivery room with no masks. I ended up having a quite traumatic birth but all the staff from the birthing suite were amazing.
The trouble started when we moved to the maternity ward. My partner left at midnight, again no one asked them about their vaccinated history. The plan was for them to return the next morning as a partner normally would. I had visitors before my partner arrived to which I felt 2 nurses were quite rude to. So when I tried to walk out of my room they told me I couldnt walk out carrying my own baby, and that I couldnt leave the ward. My partner then arrived, walked past reception and no one asked him for vaccination proof. Then minites later a nurse burst into my room seemingly yelling at my partner and me. In my opinion, very rude and extremely unprofessional. I felt so sad that my first experience was ruined. I had such a tough birth and only an hour sleep feeling very vulnerable and definitely didnt want to be treated this way or be uncomfortable in hospital where I should have been cared for. I decided to ask for my baby to be checked over so we could be discharged even though we were supposed to stay 3 nights.
I made a complaint and it seemed the response was basically that it was our fault, even though we were never made aware of Midlands rules. Based on my experience, very unprofessional and rude staff. I felt especially to be blamed instead of a simple apology.
