"Pre op phone appointment"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Surgical Services

(as the patient),

2 days before my surgery in Sir Charles Gardner Hospital I had a series of phone appointments.

I was informed I was required to have blood tests and X-rays before the operation at the hospital.

Problem was I live in the country and was flying down the night before the operation.

I changed my flight to the following morning and arrived at the hospital about midday and completed the tests and X-rays.

I was told that I should have been using a nasal cream 5 days before the operation.

I feel it would have been better for these appointments to be done a week before so any tests can be planned. Also those from the country that require to fly in can book the appropriate flights and not having to try and change them at the last minute.

I also found out that accommodation is available through PATS at SCGH for country patients.

I feel it would be useful patients were told this so they could use this if required.

Dear Travellerwn65,

Thankyou for taking the time to tell us about your experience as a country patient, travelling to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for your surgery. It was disappointing to hear that we did not give you adequate time to arrange the blood test, X-ray, and nasal cream you required in preparation for your surgery. I was sorry to hear this resulted in your need to reschedule your flight.

We recognise the additional difficulties faced by our country patients, including the need to make travel and accommodation arrangements.

I have shared your feedback with the relevant staff so that we can learn from your experience and improve the way we communicate with our country patients to ensure they are better prepared for their surgery.

Once again, my thanks for providing your feedback, and I do hope all went well with your surgery and that you are recovering well.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
