"My hypnobirthing experience with my second baby"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Maternity Ward

(as the patient),

This is the second time that I used the hypnobirthing techniques while delivering my second baby and I cannot thank enough to how empowering and under controlled my labour and birthing my boy was!

I believe information is the most empowering tool we can have and the hypnobirthing course is perfect for future mom's and partners, it tells you what to expect and how can you go through it and enjoy the ride at the same time.

This is my story:

My labour started. I went through the surges at home, they commenced around 6 am, they waited for me to wake up! as soon as I felt I could not continue to cope at home we went to the hospital (around 2:30 pm), the midwives were fantastic, one of them was used to home births and hypnobirthing and the other one a lovely student. They read my preferences and immediately turned off the lights, brought all the items to make me feel more comfortable (yoga ball, mats for the floor, etc) we turned on some nature sounds music and no-one literally talked to me, they just let me go through it, no examinations at all!

Hubby was a champion, he connected the TENS machine and keep controlling it during the surges while making sure I drank enough water! He was all over taking decisions for me as well!

The midwife told him that he was going to deliver the baby with her guidance.

After almost 2 hours my midwife, Michelle, asked me if she could do a quick examination that I accepted, we confirmed what we already know, I was fully dilated. I asked her if I should start pushing and she just said to do it whenever my body felt ready ...

I was in all fours going through some rough surges when I started to feel the urge to push but a couple of times the baby came back inside, my husband just whispered in my ear: don't fight it, and go with it... Next push and the baby was out!

My husband received him and gave my baby to me straight away, we were so shocked about how nice it was!

We all laughed and started to guess the weight of the baby... He was about 4 kgs and over 50 cms long!

It was a beautiful experience thanks to hypnobirthing, the amazing midwives and my beautiful family.

Based on my experience, please extend this course to every possible woman and give more funding to midwives as they are the ones that could make this effortless birth possible.

Thanks,

delcmb9

Congrats delcmb9 on the birth of your baby!

I am so glad we have been able to support you through 2 hypnobirths now!

Your birth story includes our recommended key ingredients for a positive birth - Knowledge, tools, support and preparation. Well done to you both for taking the time to re-engage with us to help prepare for baby number 2.

What an inspiring birth story and sounds like an incredibly supportive team (both partner and care providers at Kalgoorlie). We are really lucky in Country WA to have this quality program available and incredibly passionate birth workers.

See you for number three (wink).

Warm Regards,

Kasey

Dear delcmb9,

Thank you for telling us your story. Congratulations on your new baby and I hope all is going well with your newly extended family.

It is wonderful to hear of your experience and the positive and empowering impact of the hypnobirthing techniques. I will work with the team here to support as many Goldfields Midwives as possible to access this training in 2023.

It will be great for us to share your story in the current format. It would also be wonderful if you were interested in being part of a story for our My Healthy Goldfields Facebook page and help to spread the word with other Goldfields parents to be. If you are interested please give me a call on 9080 5817 or drop me a line at Alicia.Michalanney@health.wa.gov.au.

Kindest regards
Alicia
