"Post operative nerve pain"

About: Angliss Hospital Box Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Went into Boxhill ER for appendicitis.. was a mild case. It seemed I wasn’t allowed to be discharged and they had no bed space. Ended up transferring me to Angliss Hospital after 17 hours sitting in the ER!

At Angliss they once again checked and said mild case, but common protocol is take out the appendix. Since the surgery everything was a nightmare.. first anaesthetic wearing off as they have to give standard dosage, it seemed to me no plan for patients that deviates from the norm.. caused stress and anxiety. Had tingling feeling on central pelvic area, which I felt they downplayed to nerve being irritated.

I then was having full blown nerve triggered pelvic pain. Went into Boxhill ER again and sat for 15 hours with the triage nurse seemingly rolling their eyes at me. Sure, I looked fine, but I feel anyone that experienced nerve pain knows it’s like stabbing pain inside. They concluded in the end it’s nerve damage from surgery and just advised to take normal OTC painkiller which I found does not help with nerve pain!

I know the health system is exhausted from covid, but having what I believe to be an inexperienced surgeon to operate is not an excuse. Inexperience surgeon who just says it’s bad luck I feel isn’t professional.

I know the nurses are having it tough as well, but it’s quite rude to roll your eyes at someone who is in pain!

I am now going through private as Eastern health gynaecology department declared I’m not urgent.. I wish I knew that I could have insisted to be discharged and going into private for appendicitis so I’m not experiencing full blown nerve pain from pelvic to vulva area now!

Based on my experience, if I can afford to go private.. I'll just do it! Or go to another public hospital, in my opinion, I don’t think Eastern Heath really cares.
