"Exceptional care"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

A chromosomal abnormality led us to being referred to the maternal fetal medicine unit. Nurse Sue and prof Jan were amazingly compassionate and knowledgeable during our amniocentesis and a very stressful time for us. Nurse Jenny who we had our follow up appointment with was very caring and spent a lot of time going through all of our questions.

I was admitted to ward 6 at KEMH for a termination for medical reasons at 19 weeks. Nothing will change the fact that it was one of the most traumatic days of our lives, but having three of the most compassionate and knowledgeable nurses, turned our experience into one made of peaceful memories.

Cara, Hannah and Nikki all provided the highest level of care during our stay. They made sure I was comfortable, listened to our fears and were by our side when we needed them. We will never forget our little boy or the three lovely nurses who cared for us so well during this horribly tough time.

Unfortunately we said goodbye to our little boy at 19 weeks, but we will always remember the amazing care from the medical team from the maternal fetal medicine unit. Forever grateful.

Dear Appreciative first time mother,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS). I would firstly like to extend my sincere condolences on the loss of your little boy. The termination of a pregnancy can be a heartbreaking experience and I am pleased to hear that you received the care you needed to support you through such a difficult and traumatic time.

We are extremely proud of our staff who strive to provide our patients and their families with support during their pregnancy journey. I’m happy to hear that Professor Jan, Sue and Jenny were able to provide such compassionate care during this stressful time.

Staff at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) understand how important it is to our patients to be treated with care and compassion during difficult experiences and it is heartening to hear that the staff on Ward 6 were able to look after you with empathy and warmth during your admission.

I will ensure that your feedback is provided to Cara, Hannah and Nikki on Ward 6, as well as to Professor Jan, Sue and Jenny from our MFM team.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and I wish you and your family all the best in the future.

Barbara Lourey
