My parent was taken to ED after having a stroke recently, they were awaiting transfer to a different medical centre for specialised care, whilst waiting for transfer they were placed in the short stay ward within the ED, they spent 5 days within the ED, on the fifth day they were transfered to the Acute Ward on Level 3 late in the afternoon, we were then informed that a bed had become available on the following day at 10am and the transfer did not happen, my parent was still waiting for a plan and to get some specific rehab for their needs. Whilst the staff have been fantastic, I feel the delay in appropriate care for my parent's specific needs/rehab is concerning.

My apologies for the delay in responding. I thought I had posted last week but alas.... I would love to speak to you to review the file and review what happened. I wonder if you might call or text me on 0472846355 and provide your parent's details to me?

There is no doubt that the health system is busier than usual, everywhere, and there are times where we might usually transfer someone but decide, in consultation with the treating team at the tertiary centre, to provide care locally and consult with the specialists re our management plan. I can assure you that we would rarely hold someone if we believed they were outside our capability, and if that did happen, it should be with full disclosure to the family and would be because the system was under dire distress. I would be very keen to see what happened in your parent's case. I hope I hear from you. Thank you for providing this feedback. It's really important to understand the details to know if we missed something in our process. I hope your loved one is doing ok now.
