"How 1 person in a hospital can help"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I am married with 4 kids. I work as a deep sea trawler fisherman and have slaved my guts out for over 30years.

I had back pain and discomfort at work for over 6 months and then collapsed at work with it.  After several hospital and doctors appointments  I finally was told surgery is needed.

I applied for Centrelink and was treated very poorly for 3 months with them seemingly putting me in too hard basket, continuously asking more documents, more accountant visits, more doctor visits and refusing payment. (My time ,money and mental stress).

After being turned away from emergency several times I was admitted to hospital with bowel issues partially due to stress. While in Geraldton regional hospital  I asked to see a social worker. There was an angel that appeared and her name was Bincy. Bincy spoke to me and got my story. Just speaking to somebody who listened to my problems with a sense of care and compassion was a massive relief to me at this stage.

Bincy did her homework and got back to me after contacting the people she needed to. Bincy could see my family is all that I'm here for and not being able to feed or supply for them in a time of ill health was killing me.
I then was discharged so as to head to perth where I had part of my bowel removed.

The work Bincy did to help me get some sort of income to help my partner (who was now working day and night) was unbelievable as centerlink folded and started to pay me fortnightly which still does not pay the rent alone but is greatly appreciated for my family.

Her compassion and helpful nature gave me a bit better relief on my mental status and faith in life. I will never forget Bincy a very lovely lady that gave me the strength to smile another day. Thankyou Bincy.
