"My mother in law's recent admission"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / ASB 4S - Aged Care Rehab & Acute Aged Care Extension Ward

(as a staff member),

As a clinician working at POWH, I am aware of the excellent professionals that provide compassionate and evidence based care on a daily basis.  It was however as a family member that I was really able to witness the warmth and generosity of spirit that accompanies the exceptional healthcare provided at POWH.

My mother in law required two admissions to POWH in rapid succession late last year.  At this time she received excellent care at all points, from her admission to ED, to consults from cardiology (Drs John and Sze-Yuan), gastroenterology (Dr Stephen's team I think, apologies if that is wrong!) and aged care.  This care was not confined exclusively to medical input but also included nursing staff and Allied Health.

Following her third admission in early this year, it was clear that a period of aged care rehab was required to support her to return home safely.  Her distressing vertigo was assessed and managed by the excellent Ross in OT and her day to day mobility and self care skills were assessed and supported by other members of the OT team including Danielle and Chloe who were so kind and patient.  I am sure that physio were involved also and apologies for not knowing the relevant names.  She was also seen by Sienna in speech pathology who provided a caring and comprehensive one of assessment.  Along with the nursing and medical staff on P6 and P5 she was really supported to reach her rehabilitation goals and return home to live with her husband, where they were able to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary recently.

Being on the receiving end of care allows us to review services from a different perspective and as a consumer, it was so reassuring to see such collaborative and supportive care.  It wasn't perfect and there were some things that didn't go exactly according to plan but the response to feedback or questions about that meant that we felt listened to and supported to achieve the expected outcomes.

Thank you to all the teams on all the wards, nursing, medical and allied health.  You all do an incredible job!

Hello carinawe84,

Thank you for your lovely feedback with your mother in law's recent admission to POWH. It is wonderful that you can reflect on such a positive experience with all her health care interactions within POWH.

It is also lovely that as a clinician it is warming to witness such great care as a consumer.

I am very happy that your in law's were able to celebrate such an important life event together and that the care and support from POWH clinicians was able to support this.

Kind regards

Justin O'Hare
