"Positive birth programs"

About: Broome Health Campus / Maternity/Midwifery Positive Birth Program

(as the patient),

I completed the positive birth antenatal program via telehealth prior to the recent birth of my baby at Broome Hospital. I had a very smooth birth only using TENS and hypnobirthing tools during the birth which I was really happy about. I think the hypnobirthing course and WA Health’s overall acceptance and support for positive and empowered birthing assisted with having a smooth and intervention free birth.

The only thing I would suggest is that I think the demonstrations and practice of hypnobirthing techniques is lost somewhat through telehealth, I sought out other paid education resources to better understand and practice the techniques mentioned during telehealth classes, I think the practical aspect of the course would be much better delivered face to face.

I also would have loved to have access to a supported home birth which I believe isn’t currently an option here in Broome. My birth went so smooth that it came quite close to being an accidental home birth had I waited any longer to head to the hospital, I feel having the option of a planned supported home birth for low risk patients would be amazing and help reduce the anxiety and stress about having to head to the hospital and/or potentially having an accidental home birth and having to call emergency services.

Congratulations hekapw66 on the birth of your baby!

What a beautiful birth story to read through. How strong and amazing are you! I loved reading about the time and energy that you put in to preparing for the birth of your baby.

100% agree, in-person classes absolutely have a special element to them. We are lucky enough to now have them available through Broome Hospital with a specialised team of midwives who have a passion for quality birth education. Hopefully if there is a 'next time' you maybe able to join in.

Home birth is becoming more accessible and available throughout Australia with good research to support it as an option for maternity care. It maybe that Broome will one day be able to support it too. Feedback like yours is instrumental in reflecting what services consumers want, so thank you.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback and best wishes for your little family.

Warm Regards,

Kasey
