"Alchol addiction"

I had issues with drinking for many years. Felt like it was a cycle I just could not get out of. Felt like I had no control over my life and that I was a failure to myself and my family. I was at breaking point.

I reached out to my GP who put me in touch with the Lives Lived Well team, my counsellor was Anthony and he was just absolutely fantastic. I had received counselling before but nothing seemed to work, to me it was like the person in the other chair was reading out of a text book (the text book I myself had read as I had studied psychology for a few years) Anthony was a real person who kept things in perspective. I started off the sessions with not much hope but after explaining what I was after (as I wished for a more cognitive behavioural approach I didn't wish to take Naltraxone or anything I wanted to get to the root causes and have strategies that could last) Anthony was able to work within this scope and provided me a lot of light bulb moments and added a lot more tools in my tool box on how to approach my drinking issue. By the end of the sessions I felt a lot more empowered and am confident in moving forward in my life with alcohol no longer getting in my way of a happy family and happy life.
