My father deteriorated quite quickly and fell at home. We do not have a permanent GP however the locum GP Dr Karen quickly arranged blood tests and told a home visit to discuss the results and options. Dad elected to go via ambulance to Mildura where he had a day stay and stabilised. Dad's multiple medical conditions mean he is approaching that last stage but we have been able to access services to support us on this journey. This was made possible by the care & diligence of local district nursing service. Permanent GP would be invaluable.

This is certainly a difficult time for your father and the rest of the family. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you and your father.

We are delighted that you and your father were able to access a General Practitioner in Ouyen and have an appropriate referral to the tertiary hospital when you needed to. I will certainly pass on your comments to Dr Karen and thank you for your kind words regarding the District Nurses. Despite being a small service, we pride ourselves on getting members of the local community access to the right care at the right time. As you know, we have not been able to recruit a permanent general practitioner to Ouyen, and we rely on locums. This is a concern shared by many rural communities in Australia. We are exploring alternatives to ensure that the Ouyen community will continue to have a primary care service available locally.
