"My recent experience as an inpatient"

About: Box Hill Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was recently a patient at Box Hill Hospital on Ward 8.2

My biggest concern was what appeared to be the lack of hygiene and totally inadequate cleaning. I had to ask the cleaner to clean the bathroom after they apparently cleaned it leaving it soiled and with a full rubbish bin of soiled rubbish. My sibling commented on dirty coffee stains on the floor which it seemed had been there a few days.

Doctors were generally very good.

I felt the nursing care was robotic giving the impression that with one notable exception, a nurse, was exemplary, I felt that Nurses interest in the job was pedestrian at best.  I recall not a smile or friendly face despite my efforts to be friendly and an easy patient to care for being largely self caring. I was very unwell but I felt no real care shown or interest.

Importantly, oxygen was only checked once to check if it was working. I believe it used to be done at the start of every shift.  What would have happened if they needed it?

All the fuss over wearing masks, and I know their importance, but the lack of overall hygiene was inexcusable, in my opinion.

Sincerely

tigertd75

Dear tigertd75

Thank you so much for taking the time to share these comments regarding your experience in ward 8.2 at Eastern Health's Box Hill campus. I'm sorry your experience was mixed but I was pleased to read the medical staff were generally good.

I will provide your feedback to the leaders of both the cleaning service and the ward so they can review and determine what improvements may be needed.

I trust you have recovered from whatever required you to be in hospital and you've been able to resume your normal activities.

Thank you once again, and best wishes.

David
