I had a wonderful experience with my first pregnancy through the Midwifery Group Practice at KEMH. My midwife was Paula. The initial appointments were conducted over telehealth but I always had access to Paula and MGP for any concerns. All third trimester appointments were in person.
The continuity of care meant that Paula (or on the odd occasion that she wasn’t available, her colleagues) knew exactly what was going on with my pregnancy. I felt comfortable and well-informed throughout, and was never made to feel rushed during appointments. I was always encouraged to ask questions and given the opportunity to inform & educate myself before consenting to any procedure, however minor. I truly felt like mine and baby’s best interests were the priority. I felt respected, supported and empowered in each decision I made leading up to and during my labour.
The fact that Paula was able to attend my labour made me feel more comfortable from the outset. Once discharged, MGP continued to support us through home visits, during which the midwives were generous with their time, advice, encouragement and practical help - especially when I had early struggles with breastfeeding. This gave us the confidence to transition into parenthood with relative ease.
