"Midwifery Group Practice"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We had a great first-pregnancy experience with our midwives from MGP. Lolita was always very supportive and informative, giving a balanced viewpoint about each decision we faced along the journey, such as breech babies, initial vaccines, strep b and induction, to name a few. She was always thorough in explaining pros/cons and different schools of thought, which was important for us to make our own informed decisions.

Being informed was key to feeling relaxed and in control during labour, which in turn helped me produce lots of oxytocin that, I believe, resulted in a very quick labour, our beautiful little girl coming out in 4 pushes with 15 minutes of arriving at hospital. The only downside was stretched resources on the day meant we didn’t have our familiar midwives there at the birth. Hopefully more funding & resources for MGP will resolve that.

Dear sagittariusrx35,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and thank you for taking the time to share your comments on the Care Opinion site.

We are incredibly proud of our Midwifery Group Practice Teams (MGP) and the way they work with our patients to achieve positive outcomes during the pregnancy and birthing journey. I am so pleased to hear that you had a positive experience with our MGP model of care, and that you felt safe, supported and informed throughout your pregnancy and birth.

Our MGP staff try to make sure that our patients meet the other members of the team in case they are not available during the birth. However, this is not always possible, and I’m sorry to hear that you were not familiar with the midwife who was assigned to be at your birth. I’m hopeful that you still felt supported and empowered by the team members who were present during the birth of your daughter.

Thank you for sharing your story and we will be sure to send your appreciative comments to all the staff involved, with special thanks Lolita.

I wish you and your family all the best for the future.
