I believe the way they have organised Fiona Stanley Hospital ED is just appalling and in my opinion, someone will end up with a mental health condition after they've tried to get help but waiting for hours (7).

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read of your negative experience in our ED. We are working hard to reduce the length of time patients wait to get access to the department but there are occasions when a surge of very unwell patient presentations will result in these patients' getting priority.

Fiona Stanley Hospital has the busiest ED in the state, regularly treating more than 300 patients per day including 75 to 95 ambulance arrivals. All patients are triaged using the Australasian Triage Scale (ATS) and given a triage category of 1 (extremely urgent) down to 5.

We are aware that there are times where people given a triage category of 5 will unfortunately wait several hours to be seen due to more urgent presentations (usually 20-40 people at FSH ED each day).
