After waking up from a routine procedure recently at Bunbury regional hospital day procedure unit. I requested my usual medication as I had been fasting for quite some time. I recall my response from the nurse was we are too busy. I felt I was reasonable in my opinion as I stated, I get you are busy but I need my medication, for the nurse in question’s response was to call for security and, I recall, tell them to get me out of their face, then for the nurse to turn to security and myself and say I just want to punch them (the patient) on the face. (Their exact words, I recall). Mind you this is no longer than 5 minutes of waking up from anaesthetic.
I then proceeded to grab my stuff as all I wanted to do was go home as I felt completely unsafe in the care of the hospital system at that stage. After waiting at the front for my partner to collect me I had the security involved come to me and severely apologise for the nurse's actions. I recall the security guard then proceeded to state that in no way was I ever aggressive neither in the wrong for requesting my regular charted medications, with a response that the system has failed me. I am still really traumatised from the whole experience and have lost all faith in the health system as I have been constantly let down. I would also like to note that I felt the security mentioned were amazing in the whole situation.
