My teenage child had an accident windsurfing and had a significant impact to their back and could not walk. We arrived at a local hospital around evening time. My child had xrays which showed no broken bones but they needed to go to Bunbury Hospital for CT/MRI scans to be spinally cleared. It took 15 hours for an ambulance to take them to Bunbury!
My child was in a full spinal cocoon for travelling for almost that entire time - waiting for an ambulance. My child is a teenager. They were really scared and they were not spinally cleared for 24 hours. They were very uncomfortable. Because the ambulance only came just before mid-morning the next day, by the time we arrived at Bunbury hospital, they were getting slammed with emergencies and we just got bumped continually. Finally after making some complaints (not the fault of staff - they were simply under resourced) - we got a CT scan that evening.
