"Dentist"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Face and Jaw (Maxillofacial) Surgery

(as a relative),

Went to Royal Perth as I care for my parent who has a rare disease called systemic mastocytosis which means they need a special dentist and staff on hand if they have an attack so got there early. No one was there, one person went in before my parent then my parent went in so the hospital had all their records, the Xray of their teeth to only be told can't be done we only do 30 appointments you will need to rebook.

But I believe they knew all about my parent so here it is I'm a carer I took the day off from work to be with my parent they made us wait, they had all paperwork. So I feel why does it seem their time is any more important than my time?

Dear cyclonenq96,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I am sorry to hear of the negative encounter you recently had with Royal Perth Hospital’s Maxillofacial department. It is really important to us that both patients and their family receive timely care and treatment. The story you describe indicates we fell short on this occasion.

It is disappointing to hear of your concerns, not just related to your parent being unable to receive treatment at their appointment but also for your inconvenience of taking time off work unnecessarily. I would like to apologise for any distress this has caused. Please be reassured that Royal Perth Hospital takes feedback like yours seriously as we are always looking for opportunities to improve the service we provide to our patients and members of the community.

We respect your choice if you would like to remain anonymous; however, if you would like us to investigate this matter to ensure that your parent gains the service they need and so that others do not encounter the same challenges, we encourage you to contact our Consumer Engagement Unit on 9224 1637 from 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday or email: RPBG.Feedback@health.wa.gov.au

Kind Regards,

Ms Sandra Miller

A/Executive Director
