"Residential Rehab staff and service"

About: Mirikai Residential Rehabilitation Facility

(as a service user),

I would have rated this place higher. Most of staff I saw were great except for a particular person. In my opinion, this person is unqualified, inexperienced in dealing with addicts and lazy. I had belongings stored in the secure locker room and I understand they threw it out. Then stuffed me around telling me to ask another staff member. And even hung up on me when I called about my belongings.

I believe this person was also biased towards me. It’s disappointing that as I understand it,  they replaced a treatment facilitator who I believe was qualified and had years of experience dealing with addicts.

I understand some graduates use mirikai as a training base. I had a trainee psychologist whose services I would not use even if it was free. On a positive note I would like to thank Trent for taking the time to talk to me. And Danny the psychologist who has moved on to private practice.

Dear whiskeyzx73,

It takes courage and strength to put life on hold and come to rehab. I’m glad for you that most of the staff looked after you.

I’m sorry that you’ve had trouble with your belongings and while I can’t talk specifically into your situation, I thought it might help to know what our process is around client’s belongings. If a person leaves any belongings behind when the leave Mirikai Residential Rehabilitation Facility, our process is to keep their belongings in a secure location for 2 weeks to give the client time to come and collect them. We are unable to hold them for longer than 2 weeks as we don’t have the room to do so.

I understand that you are upset about the way you were spoken to and how your belongings were handled and I would very much like to talk to you about it both so we can try to get your belongings back to you if possible, and also to help work through what happened during, and after your stay. I want you to know that giving us this feedback will not influence any future stays with us and it’s important that what happened doesn’t become a stumbling block to your recovery. If you are up for it, could you give me a call so we can have a chat? My number is 0477996342. Alternatively, you’d be most welcome to talk with our Clinical Services Manager, Vicky Raabe on 07 5508 0922.

In terms of the way you were spoken to, we know that respect goes both ways and your experience will be shared with our team so that we ourselves can discuss the ways we interact with our clients and the impact our words and tone can have on others.

It’s excellent to hear that Trent and Danny looked after you. As I mentioned, I know the strength it takes to start the rehab journey and I was really glad Trent gave you the time you needed to talk. As you know, Danny is no longer with us but I will ensure to share your feedback with Trent.

So thank you for letting us know what happened. We genuinely appreciate it and hope we can touch base with you soon.

Craig
