"My mum's final days on Ward 73."

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Palliative Care Unit

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to room 7, Ward 73 due to her multiple health conditions.  Unfortunately, her condition rapidly deteriorated and she passed away in the Lotus room in the early hours of 13 February 2023. She was surrounded by immediate family and her husband of more than 64 years.

I'd like to thank the nurses for their care during my mum's final days in SCGH. We have a large family and at times there were more than the usual permitted number of family members in the Lotus room - I thank the nursing staff for exercising discretion and compassion by allowing flexibility so that family could spend previous time with mum.

I'd like to also acknowledge the care and patience of the doctors that spent time with the family to answer any and all questions. We had a top palliative care consultant also meet with the family (I forget his name now) - he was very compassionate and understanding when speaking with the family.

Our family is now grieving and mum's funeral service was only recent (8/3/23). I am still coming to terms with mum's passing, however cannot thank the staff enough for their care and compassion - under what were trying times for our family (and no doubt the staff as well).

Dear stonemk35

On behalf of Sir Charles Gairdner hospital, I would like to offer my deepest sympathy on the passing of your beloved mother. Please also extend our sincere condolences to her husband and other members of your family.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt words of appreciation for your mum’s care on ward G73 during the end of her journey. It is a privilege to be in a position to care for people and their loved ones, at such intimate stages in their lives.

It is never an easy thing when our loved ones leave and our hope always, is that it will be peaceful and surrounded by loved ones.

Providing holistic support for patients and families who are at the end stage of life is something the staff at Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Health Care Group always strive for. I am pleased to hear that staff did their utmost to make your mother comfortable and showed their compassion and understanding to ensure you and your family had the opportunity to spend precious time with her.

I know the team will be proud and honoured to know how much their care and support was appreciated and the recognition provided.

I am sure that you and the family continue to seek comfort in each other at such a difficult time.

Once again please accept our condolences and we wish you and your family all the best.

Warm regards

Jodi Graham
