I had my twins transferred from Monash hospital to be closer to home. The nurses in the special care nursery were so understanding and helpful. Being a first time mum with complications and early babies was a terrifying ordeal, and to still be so far from my family made it harder.
The nurses, especially Mel, encouraged me, supported me and cared for me like I've never experienced. I'm still blown away from the level of care I recieved when I wasnt even a patient, but after noticing I was in pain Mel organised for me to be seen by the emergency department where it was revealed I had post op infections and required antibiotics. If it wasnt for Mels encouragement and support, i wouldnt have sought help for myself, being so concerned for my children. But her kind but firm encouragement allowed me to rest and allow my body to heal to be able to care for my babies the way they needed.
The love and care shown to my twins made me feel like the nurses were their extended family. Their accomplishments with weight gain and feeding, first bath, to coming off the feeding tubes were all celebrated with such genuine joy and excitement. Nurse Mel was a light in a very dark place for me. I was diagnosed with PTSD after being discharged from hospital along with PND and her words of encouragement and understanding helped keep my mind where it needed to be. The chats we had on nights when it was slow were so appreciated and made me felt heard. She really went above and beyond. I cannot thank you enough.
