About: Mental Health Observation Area

(as a relative),

i would like to know why joondalup hospital is discharging someone with mental health issues resulting in multiple hospital admissions within a 96 hour time period within 12 hours of admission via police apprehension with a weapon. I would also like to know why they are seemingly so keen to discharge someone while they are, as I understand it, still under the influence of sedatives and appearing calm instead of allowing the sedatives to fully wear off to make a clear and true assessment of a patient presenting with mental health issues, self harm and suicidality concerns.

Thank you for reaching out to us about your relative’s experience when attending Joondalup Health Campus (JHC). I am very sorry to read that your relative has been experiencing mental health issues and that you are concerned with the level of care they received and the discharge process. I acknowledge that this must be a difficult and distressing time for you and your relative.

JHC strives to deliver the best mental health care in an environment that is least restrictive to the patient. I want to ensure that your relative is receiving the help and support they need and would like to look into the care they received during their admissions and discharge, to see if there are any other supports or services that we can offer. In order to do this I would need your relative’s consent.
