I recently had my second child at the KEMH family birth centre after a classical ‘cascade of intervention’ birth in the private sector with my first born. I was cared for at KEMH solely by midwives from second trimester onwards. The care I received was second to none. There was no wait time for appointments and the communication received was excellent.
I particularly enjoyed the continuity of care, the ease of appointments and how I was helped to make informed choices about my antenatal care. I trusted the team the whole way through until the big day and beyond. I arrived in the early hours of the morning and was led into a beautiful room lit with fairy lights that looked like I could’ve been in my own home. Throughout the labour I was supported just enough to know that the midwives were there without being intrusive or distracting to the process, like little guardian angels edging in with their doppler. When our little boy was ready to come into the world, midwife Sophie helped me to muster the last of my reserves to get over the line when I didn’t think I could. None of us could believe it when he tipped the scales at 4.91kg and 55cm after measuring to date throughout the pregnancy! I cannot thank the Family Birth Centre team enough for facilitating the low intervention pregnancy and birth I wanted. You are all incredible (particularly my primary midwife Grace and Olivia, Claire and Sophie who cared for methroughout my labour and post natal visits).
