"Melanoma treatment"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / General Surgery Department & Ward 7A & Ward 7B Fiona Stanley Hospital / Pre admission Clinic & Day of Survey Admission (DOSA)

(as the patient),

Went to Fiona Stanley hospital for melanoma surgery under general anaesthetic. I received extremely compassionate and competent care from everyone who dealt with me. Everything was well explained and I felt included in all discussions and decision making.  My pain levels were very managed by the anaesthesiologist.

The day before surgery I had a nuclear medicine scan where again I was very well cared for.

It was also great to see a good sense of humour from the staff which helped to relieve any anxiety.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made the experience so good for me.

Dear induszc33,

I’m sorry to read of your melanoma, but fantastic news that you have had it removed and that the care you received sounds as though it was exactly the type of care we pride ourselves on. I am particularly happy to read that the communication was clear and compassionate. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share your gratitude – I will be sure to forward your kind words on to the teams involved.

Your story is a wonderful example of how our staff deliver compassionate care to a level they would wish for themselves or their loved ones.

We are currently receiving nominations for the annual South Metropolitan Health Service Compassionate Care Awards, where we acknowledge those staff and teams who help us to provide a great patient experience. If you’d like to nominate a staff member or team involved in your care, you can use this link Home | Put it to the People (health.wa.gov.au).

All the very best.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty.
