Recently, I had an appointment with an obstetrician to book in a date for my cesarean section. The appointment started off with all the standard checks and questions and although I found their bedside manner was quite unique, I didn’t think much of it and they were okay enough to deal with.
At the end of the appointment they started wrapping things up and my student midwife had to mention the c section booking. I recall the obstetrician responded by asking me if I want to book a section, to which I said yes and that’s what I thought the appointment was for.
After this I felt their whole demeanor and attitude towards me changed and they were very negative about it. I tried to mention that I have issues from my first birth which includes a uterine prolapse and that I had sought advice from a women’s health physio who strongly suggested I go for the section. The obstetrician asked me if I saw a gynecologist and when I said no it was a women’s health physio, I felt they completely dismissed me.
I left the appointment feeling completely unheard, dismissed and like I had no opinion or choice or support on what was going to happen.
Up until this appointment I have felt nothing but support and care from every midwife and obstetrician I have dealt with at Kalgoorlie health campus and have had nothing but amazing experiences. So it’s very unfortunate that this has left such a bad experience in my mind.
I have struggled alot with my mental health and anxiety this pregnancy and I was feeling so much better having decided on a c section.
I felt very supported on this decision up until this.
