Attending outpatient appointment for a preadmit with my partner at Busselton Health Campus. Everything was going well, my partner was on the bed being prepared for an ECG and was partially wired. There was a knock on the door and it was immediately pushed opened by a hospital employee not in nursing uniform. The nurse said that they had someone with them but the employee did not leave then proceeded to question them about some patient paperwork that they needed. The nurse stopped what they were doing with the ECG and looked for the paperwork, this went on for about 5 minutes. After the person left the nurse continued to do the ECG. My partner asked if they had all the wires on as there were some dangling. Then they were attached. There is no fault on the nurses part, I believe they were distracted by the intrusion which I feel should not have happened. Is it normal for staff to interrupt an appointment when someone is partially exposed for a query that could have waited for the 10 minutes that the appointment lasted?
My partner was concerned that the ECG would not have been accurate if they had not alerted the nurse to the fact that preparations were not complete. This was a breach of privacy and should not have happened. Dont want to take any further but concerned if this is normal practice I feel it should stop.
