"Confidentiality"

About: Derby Hospital

(as the patient),

Went to a doctors appointment recently at Derby Hospital. Walked out of the room with the clinician. The clinician handed my referral letter to the administration staff and while I was still in the area, the staff member sat at their desk and took their time to read every line of my medial history, in front of me.

I felt uncomfortable and that it was a breach of my confidentiality.

I would like for front line people to be aware that we live in a small community and our private business matters. I would not like it to happen to anyone else and for people to have more integrity.

I felt like their job was to simply process my referral and sent it to the right department. Not sit there and read my private information, word for word.

Dear Respect,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent experience at Derby Hospital. Administration staff play a key role in adding referrals to our computer systems and sending them to the right place which often does require them to read the paperwork. Whilst there is a legitimate reason for doing so, not all information on the referral is relevant for this purpose. I am sorry for the unease you felt. Our Administration Coordinator has last week reinforced to the team the requirement of maintaining confidentiality, which includes accessing information on a "need to know" basis only.

Thank you again for your time and please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Dan
