"Waiting area and time in emergency"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Came here because our GP told us to go to the emergency department.

Three hour wait.

Zero communication.

Triage nurse was rolling their eyes at people who had to leave.

Then they asked us to come back tomorrow.

So we did and at the time of writing this story I feel we're just being screwed around. A form wasn't filled out, the Doctor is new... excuse after excuse it seems.

The air conditioning isn't working, it's really a horrible experience.

Oh and were also sitting in the wheelchair storage area because there's no room.

Dear sextanszx39,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story about your recent visit to the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) Emergency Centre. The experience you describe does not align with the Women and Newborn Health Service’s values of care and respect, and I’m deeply sorry to hear about the poor communication and discomfort you experienced in the KEMH Emergency Centre.

We would very much like to speak with you directly to offer you a full apology, and to learn more about your visit so that we can undertake a full review of your experience. If you would be comfortable discussing your experience further, I would encourage you to contact our Customer Liaison Service on 6458 1444. They will be able to put you in touch with our Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery who will listen to your feedback and undertake a review of the concerns you have raised, including poor communication, wait times, and waiting room environment. Following this review, we will provide you feedback on any steps taken to address the issues you have highlighted.

Thank you once again for reaching out via Care Opinion to share your story. We are grateful for feedback like yours as hearing directly from our patients helps us to identify the steps we need to take to achieve our vision of providing excellence in healthcare for women and their families.

Yours sincerely

Graeme Boardley,

Acting Executive Director.
