"Excellent Nursing Services at Rottnest Island"

About: Rottnest Island Nursing Post

(as a service user),

I would like to extend the greatest of thanks to the Clinical nurse who supported us, not once but twice while on a day trip to Rottnest Island.

I am a clinical nurse myself and the care provided to my travelling companion was exceptional. The clinic was busy and we were able to witness not only exceptional care to ourselves but quick, appropriate and decisive care to a young boy presenting with burns during our stay.

As a mother of 4, I would certainly be very grateful to have my children cared for in such a professional and swift manner, with burns management and pain control as the first and upmost priority.

I believe the facility at Rottnest Island is well equipped, spacious, clean and tidy. Another complement to the staff.

We felt welcomed and confident with the advice given, again, not once but twice.

We would like to support your health services plans to provide Telehealth or the equivalent of TEMSU/RSQ for these amazing nurses, as I could only imagine with Cat 1/2 emergencies could be very overwhelming and an immediate link to medical care via video would be a welcomed relief. I hope you are working towards this.

The nurse that supported us is not aware of this compliment and we would appreciate if you could investigate the roster to see who was on duty and pass on our greatest congratulations for being such a great reflection of your health service and remote nursing as a whole.

Thank you.

Dear Kyntyre41971,

Thank you for your Care Opinion post and apologies for the delay in responding to you.

I know that the nurses at the Rottnest Island Nursing Post are all highly skilled and go to great lengths to assist injured and unwell people especially when they are far from home and unsure of the local health processes. It is always lovely to receive confirmation of this from members of the public like yourself though.

While we would be very grateful to have telehealth services at Rottnest, as the Rottnest Island Nursing Post is part of the South Metropolitan Health Service rather than the WA Country Health Service, this unfortunately not available. Having said that, the Rottnest Island Nursing Post has support from Virtual Emergency Medicine (VEM) at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) from 10am to 6pm which is a great help, and outside of those hours the Rottnest Island Nursing Post staff can contact the FSH Emergency Department Consultants.

I have ensured that the team at Rottnest Island Nursing Post have read your compliment, with my added thanks.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty.
