"Interpreting ultrasound results"

About: Carnarvon Hospital / Outpatient Facilities

(as the patient),

I saw a Dr (Gynaecologist) at Carnarvon late 2022 for replacement of copper IUD and review of USS results regarding fluid in my fallopian tube. I felt that they were pushing hormonal alternatives for me even though I had expressed that I didn’t want to be on hormonal contraceptive and already bought a copper iud ($150). This made me feel like I wasn’t being listened to or my choice respected.

The Dr arranged a repeat USS for early 2023 and placed a new copper IUD. We had a follow up phone appointment two months later. In this follow up, they told me that the repeat USS in early 2023 showed my new IUD was again too low and needed removal, and that there was still fluid in my fallopian tube which is what the repeat USS was checking. This made me upset as IUD insertion/removal is really painful and I was really anxious about the fluid and its effects on fertility.

I went to a different gynaecologist in Perth to get the IUD removed as directed, as I was no longer living in Carnarvon. The Perth gynaecologist provided a copy of the report from early 2023 that states the iud is in position and no fluid in the fallopian tube was found. I am very frustrated by the fact I was told false information and the Gynaecologist in Carnarvon had seemingly read the wrong report.
