"Inpatient stay"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Respiratory Medicine Department & Ward 5D

(as the patient),

Stayed on ward 5D for 2 weeks. Most medical staff brilliant and compassionate.

I believe your food staff need some serious brushing up on communication and manners. Two staff members (shall remain anonymous), in my opinion, terrible service. Dump a tray in front of me and get annoyed with the simplest of requests such as a Vegemite instead of a jam or a simple sachet of tomato sauce. On some occasions did not offer tea or coffee and when it was sometimes made it was no more than half a cup. Train your staff Serco! I feel a little bit of kindness and compassion goes a long way for someone laying in a bed for two weeks straight.

Dear marchsm39,

I am very sorry you had these experiences with our food team, and I sincerely apologise for the upset this caused you, though it was also very pleasing to hear that you rated the clinical care you received very highly.

Our staff are very proud of the work they do, and they will be disappointed to know they have let a patient down in this instance.

The food service at Fiona Stanley Hospital came back under health management in August 2021 and is no longer delivered by Serco. Your comments have been shared with the relevant managers so that they may reinforce the South Metropolitan Health Service values of care, integrity, respect, excellence and teamwork, and the importance of patient-centred care, during ongoing staff education and when training new staff.

I do appreciate your feedback and my managers will work with the food team to improve our service and ensure we do our very best to display kindness and compassion in every interaction.

I hope that you continue to have a good recovery.

Kind Regards

Neil Doverty
