"Kidney pain"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Recently, I presented to the Ed, with horrible kidney pain. After waiting a few hours pain medication and a CT the dr said my pain must just be gynological. A week later I represented the same pain. I then was told I’m so sorry they didn’t tell you, your scans show you have kidney stones. Following up I seen my dr who told me if I get even worse go back to the Ed, as they had seen on X-rays and ct that there is stones, and they had sent a referral off.

So day 17 It hurts to breathe, the pain hurts to move I present again the nurses are quick to help, the dr gets me in. I get a cannula put in but they don’t end up using it. The dr seemed to have no time, they were rarely in the room, couldn’t comfort me, they forgot to give me the urine container so as leaving the room quickly threw it to me. Then after a while came back and told me it’s highly unlikely my kidney stones giving me pain. It’s probably muscular or gynological.

So after 4 hours of sitting the doctor told me they couldn’t help and to go back to my dr. The doctor seemed to be lost, as I explained my endometriosis etc is under control. And my partner said to them “my partner is used to pain, they deal with it but this isn’t normal’. The doctor was polite enough to offer me some pain medication but I declined as the last three weeks I have had no improvement with pain medication. And if that was the answer I was looking for I would have stayed at home.

I was not impressed by the care and manner of the dr. I felt he could see I was in incredible pain and still kept saying “hmm”. I do not feel it’s acceptable to be in unbearable ongoing pain and to be just dismissed. The feeling of why go back because I believe it will just happened again.
