"Not feeling important to our local hospital and feeling forced to travel in bad weather with an unwell baby"

About: Bright Hospital

(as a carer),

I presented to bright hospital with an unwell baby. I was told via phone by the doctor on duty that it didn’t warrant them coming to the hospital and present to another hospital.

There was torrential rain and flooding across the region. As a solo carer I had to drive with a sick baby and be diverted through flood waters to go and sit in the waiting room of another hospital for 3 hours only to be told that they could only administer Panadol.

I believe a quick trip by the doctor would have saved a lot of stress. I understand that Bright hospital is a user pays annex to the bright medical centre and I feel the medical professionals should be ashamed of them selves. I believe this facility is in dire need of an upgrade of service and I feel needs to be seperated from what I believe is a tired and entitled medical centre.

Dear Scared solo parent,

I am so sorry that you had such an unfortunate experience. I more than happy to discuss your concerns via phone or in person. This would also enable us to review your case and check that you and your baby received the appropriate care at Bright Hospital.

FYI the Urgent Care Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and is nurse lead. As such, the nurse on duty will assess the patient and if appropriate, seek advice/assistance from the on-call doctor and/or emergency services.

I look forward to discussing this further with you,

Kind regards

Cathy Lennon
