I had an amazing experience at KEMH, from antenatal through to birth, being under the care of the gold team.
My antenatal care was managed primarily by Dr Jayna. She was so approachable, had a great bedside manner was knowledgeable on all areas of obstetric care and my other health issues. She always knew the status of my case (without me having to explain it each visit) and was a great advocate for my wants when it came to planning the birth. I would like to express my utmost gratitude to midwife Denise. She was gentle, caring and kind throughout labour and delivery. She set a calming tone for other health professionals who entered the room (even after a PPH) and was so gentle in her labouring direction which was exactly what I needed. Thank you to Denise for her support and encouragement, she made my experience unforgettable in the best way possible.
And lastly, I would like to thank Alysha who was the nurse manager at SCN2 when my baby was admitted. She went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable and looked after in the nursery.
The mother crafting rooms were amazing to be able to stay at the hospital in a hotel-like atmosphere while my baby was in SCN. My only negative note was that a clinician at SCN2-W made me deliver breastmilk to SCN2 at 12am and 3am because they didn’t want to call a PCA. That impacted my ability to get much needed rest and time to heal 2 days after giving birth. I would have preferred to stay on the ward instead of being discharged in that case, although the mother crafting rooms were much better than being at home.
All in all the experience I had at KEMH was great and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. I can’t wait to have my next baby at KEMH and look forward to an equally great experience the second time around.
